Homework: How to Make Things Work Without Getting Worked Up

Presenter: Doreen Engel, MA, has worked for both public and private schools as a teacher and administrator and has taught resource classes in every grade, K-12. Currently she is Director of Special Education for the Archdiocese of Washington.

Learn how to support your children emotionally in the homework process, including teaching them to organize themselves, helping them to find their best working style, allowing them to make mistakes, and most important -- staying positive. Also learn how to know when it's time to speak to your child's teachers about problem areas.

Planning for Safe Teen Driving

For parents with or without their teens ages 14 and up

Families can work together to substantially reduce the risks of crashes in the first years of teen driving. Learn about the problems experienced by novice teen drivers in our area and proven strategies for teens and parents to safely navigate this critical stage. Parents can attend alone or with their teen. National Safety Council book included.

Nobody wins a power struggle between a parent and child. Even if a parent is successful in making a child do something, the parent is left with the feeling of frustration that there had to be a fight in the first place. This workshop will focus on the causes of power struggles and the tools to prevent them.

They have conducted over 40 classes for more than 300 couples and were co-facilitors with Barbara and Don Fairfield for PEP's couples' workshop last spring.

Family Council Workshop

For all family members ages 6 and up

In many families parents make most of the decisions. At PEP we believe that everyone in a family has much to learn and much to contribute to:

  • increasing cooperation and increasingly sharing responsibility
  • making plans and coordinating activities
  • listening to each other and being heard
  • solving problems and setting limits

Come with your children to learn the skills for organizing the business of being a cooperative family. When registering, please include the ages of children attending.

Prerequisite: Preschoolers B, PEP I, or PEP Thriving with Teens (currently enrolled in or completed)

Positive Time-Out and Other Strategies
